Relationships Alice Cullen (adoptive sister) Jasper Whitlock Hale (adoptive brother)
Edward is incredibly old-fashioned (although that probably has something to do with being born in 1901) and believes relationships should be approached in a very proper way. Sex after marriage, and all that nonsense. However, relationships and sex just don't seem to interest him much at all. He's pretty much a loner, who spends time playing piano, studying and reading for pleasure and arts and crafts. He does - on the other hand - love speed. He has a passion for cars; the chic and the quick. Edward can be downright obnoxious, especially when he wants his way (as he's very stubborn) and he will usually end up getting it. He gets paranoid rather easily, and will often do rash and silly things out of panic, getting lost in his own angst and emotions. He's can be very condescending in a way that often makes me want to hit him in the face, a little too aware of his own abilities and intelligence. Nonetheless, he does have his good points. He's very loyal, generous and loving, and he's fiercely protective of those he loves. His bravery sometimes goes to the point of recklessness. He's like Romeo Montague, if Romeo had character and sparkled.
He's got a bit of a stake up his ass, to be honest. He was born Edward Anthony Masen in Dublin, Ireland, on June 20th, 1901 to Irish mother Cait and French father Edward Snr. (both magic folk). Growing up, Edward found himself to be very patriotic, had a keen interest in Irish history, and desired to join the Irish Parliamentary Party. However, when WWI broke out, he had a single-minded interest in being a soldier, fighting to secure safety for the people and self-government for Ireland. These plans were ruined, however, when he contracted Spanish Influenza at 17 and became terminally ill along with his parents. Carlisle Cullen - a doctor whom was secretly a vampire - was bound by the wishes of Edward's mother to save his life at whatever cost. After Edward's mother died (Edward Snr. was already dead), Carlisle changed Edward into a vampire, and the two of them remained together.
Carlisle was already a "vegetarian vampire" (one who feasts on the blood of animals, rather than humans), but Edward rebelled at the beginning. He practised Legilimency in life, and the power strengthened when he was changed to the point where he has trouble controlling it. He used this to identify evil people and drink only their blood, as he was depressed and angered that he could not take part in the war. However, his guilt and respect for Carlisle eventually changed this, as well as fear for his "humanity" and he adopted the vege-vamp lifestyle with difficulty. Edward often went through bouts of depression due to loneliness, his bloodlust, and the thoughts that he heard. All of it generated a great amount of self-hatred, and he rejected company more and more because of all these things. It disturbed him that even fellow vampires were somewhat violated by him, as he sometimes couldn't help hearing their thoughts. He was especially troubled by the calm nature and purity of Carlisle's mind, and how it compared to his thoughts, which were often angry and sometimes disturbing.
Carlisle built up a coven around them, and they lived as an adoptive family. Carlisle originally intended for Rosalie to perhaps be Edward's mate (as Carlisle had one in Esme and Carlisle was extremely concerned about Edward), but he wasn't interested in her. Her vanity made her resentful toward him, and there's still quite a bit of hostility between them as a result. Rosalie fell for the injured Emmett instead, and persuaded Carlisle to change him into a vampire. Eventually Alice and Jasper turned up and the Cullens were complete. Edward gets on very well with Alice, and they often benefit from eachother's gifts.
When Jasper and Alice went to Hogwarts, Edward was interested by the idea of doing something different, and being in a place where he wouldn't be the only one with strange abilities. Tired of sitting around, bored to death and surrounded by loved-up couples, he enrolled. Edward has never been to Hogwarts before, but he has been to Durmstrang and Beauxbatons in the past. He thinks Quidditch is incredibly boring, and finds Divination silly, but has a genuine fascination for the other subjects. |
